How to Choose an Auto Glass Shop. From A to Z.

It’s no accident so many auto glass shops listed in the phone book start with the letter A. They’re trying to get your immediate attention. But, if you’re ever in an accident, the decision you make about who replaces your car’s windshield could have serious consequences.

Auto glass experts say that choosing an auto glass shop is a critical decision because the windshield is an important component of the car’s safety system. “Making a choice based simply on what listing comes first in the phone book just isn’t a smart way to go about it,” says Bob Beranek, owner of Automotive Glass Consultants and a recognized auto glass expert. “The passenger side airbag utilizes the windshield to deploy properly. If the windshield becomes dislodged in an accident, the passenger may not be protected. That’s why the quality of the installation is important.”

Beranek says there are seven basic questions you can ask to help ensure that you’re working with a reputable shop that will do a quality replacement.

  1. What experience and certifications does the auto glass installer have who will work on my car?
  2. Will my vehicle get the attention it requires? (Remember, an installation can take up to one hour, plus any travel time for mobile work.)
  3. What type of adhesive system will be used? How long will it take to properly cure, or set? What are the benefits/costs of my options?
  4. What type of auto glass will be used? Was it produced by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM)?
  5. What pre- and post-work inspections and procedures will be followed?
  6. What type of warranty is provided?
  7. Is the auto glass shop/installer mobile? What precautions will the mobile installer take in poor weather conditions?

If you need to replace your windshield, Beranek advises selecting a professional auto glass installer certified by the National Glass Association. “A qualified professional knows the best techniques and will do it right the first time.” In the Twin Cities Metro Area, Rightway Auto Glass, located at 8573 Jefferson Hwy., Osseo, MN is a certified auto glass shop that can provide quality work.
